Sunday's national organizing call: Trump Is Not Above the Law

Join Karine Jean-Pierre to discuss the stakes of this fever-pitch moment for the Mueller investigation and how we can all take effective action in our communities to defend the investigation from Trump's interference.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump could fire special counsel Robert Mueller or his boss, Rod Rosenstein, or otherwise act to end his independent investigation any day. He's tried to do it more than once before—and as his personal lawyer, finances, and members of his inner circle get caught up in the web of investigations, he could recklessly react with a move that would push us into a constitutional crisis.1

That's why we have to be ready to resist such a move by Trump—and to make sure Americans of all walks of life and politicians of both parties stand up to declare, "Nobody is above the law."

This Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 CT/5:30 MT/4:30 PT), MoveOn's senior strategist and national spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, will host a call to discuss the stakes of this fever-pitch moment and how we can all take effective action in our communities.

Because you have registered for our "Ready to Resist" series of national organizing calls in the past, a few minutes before the training begins, you'll receive a call at the phone number you previously listed. No further actions is required, though you can click here to register a different phone number or come back to this link at the time of the call to listen via computer.

For the first time in months, there is finally momentum on the bipartisan legislation to insulate Mueller's investigation from Trump's attempts to overpower it—the Senate Judiciary Committee chair will bring it to a vote, and the House bill has picked up four new Republican sponsors, leading one Capitol Hill journalist to declare that "the dam is beginning to break" (which is great—but also means we have our work cut out for us to get the other 200+ House Republicans on board!).2

This Sunday's call will be a strategy update and training on how to build this pressure and protect the investigation—or be ready if Trump moves to end it.

We can take action right now to defend the Mueller investigation and ensure we all learn the truth about Russian interference in our elections. And we can also keep building our massive rapid-response network that's ready to act if Trump seeks to end the investigation.

MoveOn members have already generated tens of thousands of calls to the Senate and House to pass bipartisan legislation to defend the Mueller investigation from White House interference—and now is a critical moment to increase that pressure and pull more Republicans, as well as Democrats, to defend democracy rather than the demagogue in the White House.

And MoveOn, alongside dozens of partner organizations such as the Sierra Club, Public Citizen, Stand Up America, March for Truth, and SEIU, has built a remarkable network of more than 900 events with over 360,000 participants that would launch within 24 hours of a firing. But there's still work to shore up that rapid-response plan and to invite even more folks in our communities to join in this work.

We'll be discussing these opportunities and others on Sunday—and this call will catapult us directly into action we can take right after the call and into next week. And you'll get a call at the number you used when you previously registered for our series of national organizing calls—but click here if you want to change your number, or return to this page if you want to listen via computer.

It's no secret that our democracy has always been imperfect. It has left out and failed too many of us, especially communities of color, that have been marginalized in America for centuries. Together, we can build a democracy that respects us all—one in which we truly experience equal protection under the law and have access to participate in our communities and our government.

Trump is attempting to undo the progress that we, and generations before us, fought for and won—and he's escalating his attacks to further his racist and destructive agenda, as he seeks to shred our civic institutions and the fiber of our critical, if imperfect, democracy. He is a man whose illegal and unconstitutional missile strike on Syria may have been timed to distract from the legal issues swamping him at home. There's no limit to the destruction he could cause if we don't stand up, together, to declare that nobody, not even Donald Trump, is above the law—and hold accountable the Republican enablers who continue to turn a blind eye to his abuses.

Thank you for joining us in this fight. Hope you can join us on Sunday's call.

Thanks for all you do.
