Dear fellow MoveOn member,
It's been 520 days since Election Day 2016—a moment that will live forever in outrageous infamy because it opened the door of the White House to a "mad king" and his gaggle of criminals, warmongers, and sycophants.
But I try not to dwell on Donald Trump. Election Day 2016 also marked the first day of an ascendant, powerful, fierce, and winning progressive Resistance.
A Resistance, powered in very large measure, by MoveOn members like you. A Resistance that's been on the move—day and night—to save health care, protect special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, keep Trump from barreling our country into another war, stand proud and strong with a wide range of communities on the front lines of the mad king's brutal attacks, and fuel historic electoral wins from Virginia, to Alabama, to Pennsylvania.
Our efforts are reaching a fever pitch. And MoveOn's team is working around the clock, relying on MoveOn members like us to power some of the most effective grassroots Resistance work ever—with our actions and with our financial contributions. MoveOn is leading key advocacy fights and gearing up for a mammoth effort on electoral fights this November—juggling so many crucial priorities.
My friend, it's time to make it clear that we're in the Resistance for the long haul. We're in it to win. Will you chip in $3 to power MoveOn's essential leadership in the progressive Resistance?
As hard as you've worked, as much as you've sacrificed, I'm writing you now to ring the alarm bell and ask for even more from you—I'm asking you to support MoveOn, one of the finest people-powered forces in the nation.
As Mueller narrows in on the White House's closest cronies, securing indictments and guilty pleas, the mad king is getting, well … madder. His tweets earlier this week show a man who is unhinged and seems ready to take his reckless wrath out on our Constitution and our democracy. And that makes him much, much more dangerous.
MoveOn's team is working very hard at this apex moment, especially focused on defending the Mueller investigation, standing with brave young students across the country who are leading the crusade to break the NRA's stranglehold on American politics, and blocking the nomination of Mike Pompeo, a pro-torture, anti-diplomacy warmonger, who has no place as secretary of state, where, alongside the equally-dangerous John Bolton, he'd help march us to new wars.
Frankly, I've never seen MoveOn's team more resource-stretched—and as resolute. And I happen to know from MoveOn's executive directors that MoveOn has been stretched for the past few months, rising to meet the enormous need for its work. There's a real need at MoveOn for funds to expand election staffing, run high-impact media campaigns, flood Congress with calls, and so much more.
I don't talk about this much in my blogs, or videos, or when on the road, but there are days when the pain of this moment is so wrenching, I want to turn off the news. Look away.
There are days when I'm bone tired, and I've just got to think it's a normal reaction to one of the most frightening and disturbing moments that I've ever experienced.
But then—thankfully—with a deep breath, I'm able to push myself back into motion—arm in arm with MoveOn members like you.
You and I are here—committed this progressive Resistance—for a reason.
It's up to us to fight for the very soul of our nation.
I believe with all my heart that this is the fight of our lives.
And yes. We've been fighting for more than a stunning 520 days, but we're not giving up now. In fact, we're doubling down to win. Because we know well that, the dawn of a new day is coming.
