I am extremely nervous

We're in the home stretch, and MoveOn is running an incredibly effective, all-out, leave-no-one-behind campaign that I'm enthusiastic about. But MoveOn can't keep up this intense pace without our support.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I've had nightmares—and good dreams—about the upcoming midterm election. (Yes, this is such a crazy time that I've had both!)

I think it's because my subconscious mind knows that what happens in two weeks is undecided. It will be decided by what you and I do or don't do. And it's making me extremely nervous.

Here's a nightmare about the election results:

Our blue wave slams into a red wall. Emboldened by Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court and the improving economy (which Obama played a key role in setting the stage for), the GOP keeps control of the House—and even expands its Senate majority. Republicans maintain control of all three branches of the government, with no end in sight. Donald Trump gloats, the GOP doubles down on their scorched-earth strategy, white supremacists march, and our nation comes untethered. Republicans quickly repeal the Affordable Care Act. And Mitch McConnell makes good on his recent threat to slash Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare—making the rest of us pay for bottomless tax cuts for the superrich and corporations.

Believe me, I know that it sounds pretty bleak. I'm wearing grooves into my floors from all the midnight pacing I'm doing as I worry about it. But that doesn't have to happen if we give this election our all and then use the power we have to put a stop to Trump's horrifying agenda. Which is why I'm writing to ask you, Eddie:

Will you chip in $3 a week so that MoveOn can do everything possible to prevent this nightmare scenario at the ballot box and put a stop to Trump and his GOP cronies after the election? (MoveOn will contact you shortly after Election Day to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

If you don't like my nightmare, there's still hope! Here's a good dream about the election:

From Nevada to North Dakota to New Jersey, we succeed in generating a massive blue wave. Record turnout for a midterm election sweeps bold progressives who get elected on big ideas that can transform the country into office, stripping the GOP of power in the House and even capturing a slim majority in the Senate. A record number of women, many of them women of color, take office, making Congress more representative of the United States as a whole. Texas elects a progressive Democrat to the Senate. Georgia and Florida elect progressives who overcome centuries of structural racism to become two Black governors in the South. With a powerful mandate for Medicare for All, the national debate pivots to how we can guarantee the human right to health care. Democrats chair powerful committees geared toward holding Trump and his cronies accountable. Sure, Trump still tweets furiously, but his dangerous agenda is dead on arrival—and the momentum for 2020 is clear.

This good dream could become a reality ... if we turbocharge our efforts. I guess you could say I'm enthusi-anxious about this election. Enthusiastic that we could win. But, at the same time, extremely anxious that we won't.

We're in the home stretch, and MoveOn is running an incredibly effective, all-out, leave-no-one-behind campaign that I'm enthusiastic about. But MoveOn can't keep up this intense pace without our support.

So, Eddie, can you chip in $3 a week to make my good dreams—our good dreams—come true on Election Day and after? (MoveOn will contact you shortly after Election Day to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly to power a blue wave and win a mandate for Medicare for All!

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

I've said many times already that MoveOn's election program is incredible, and when it succeeds in electing inspiring progressive leaders up and down the ballot, it will set our country on a path toward a much brighter future. Here's just some of what MoveOn has planned to push us to victory:

  • Thousands of MoveOn members will pound the pavement in critical swing districts. Already, well-organized teams of MoveOn members have been showing up at the campaign offices of MoveOn-endorsed candidates around the country, serving as the volunteer backbone for door knocking and phone banking. We know that direct voter contact like this is the most effective way to get out the vote, and thousands more MoveOn members will be on the streets all the way until polls close on Election Day.
  • "Real Voter Voices," a groundbreaking new voter persuasion program propelled by personal videos recorded by MoveOn members, is up and running in 118 races. This innovative program has been proven to be five times more cost-effective at getting out the vote than traditional programs such as TV ads and snail mail, and MoveOn has officially launched social media ads with over 2,000 videos in the 100 congressional races, 10 Senate races, and eight gubernatorial contests. These ads will continue until Election Day, thanks to small-dollar donations from MoveOn members like you.
  • MoveOn's Mobile Phone Team is sending millions of texts to voters using MoveOn's texting program, Spoke. Volunteers are helping folks register to vote, sharing information about MoveOn-endorsed candidates, signing up new volunteers, and more. There is overwhelming volunteer demand to participate in this program. So MoveOn has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to scale up its texting technology to double the number of voters they can reach in the final days. To pull this off, they need last-minute funds to support programmers, servers, and staff to train all of the last-minute volunteers.
  • MoveOn will continue raising money directly for the campaigns that need it most. MoveOn members have come together to donate millions of dollars directly to campaigns, including $1 million raised for Black women candidates, helping to propel Democrats and progressives to record-breaking fundraising totals—but we're not done yet! MoveOn members will keep donating directly to campaigns until the very end to make sure our candidates have the resources to fight on the ground.

MoveOn's budget is bursting at the seams with demands increasing every day, and with only two weeks left until November 6, this is no time to cut back. So, let me just ask you once more:

Can you chip in $3 a week to stop another nightmare and give our good dreams a chance? (MoveOn will contact you shortly after Election Day to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

I've been getting a lot of emails and calls about recent election polls. Folks think that Democrats have this election in the bag.

That kind of nonsense is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS THINKING!

Let me be clear: This election is in no way decided.

The topline numbers for the House may look promising, but there are a lot of variables that could mean we actually lose on Election Day—like the razor-thin margins in critical races, gerrymandering that dilutes the power of Democratic voters, attacks on voting rights, and the influence of right-wing Big Money in the home stretch.

This is no time to rest. This isn't time for hubris. And, with Republicans in charge of three branches of government, we have no laurels to rest on. It's time for grit, determination, and perseverance. That's what will make our hopes—and our best dreams—come true.

It's time to invest in MoveOn, whose members are fueling the blue wave, flooding the streets, phones, and social media, and ready to push for a truly progressive agenda after we win on November 6.

Will you chip in $3 a week to make sure we win in two weeks and can fight for a better future? (MoveOn will contact you shortly after Election Day to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

Thanks for all you do.
