Sign the petition re: transgender rights

Sign the petition to fight the Trump administration attack on over 1 million Americans who recognize themselves as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I'm Amanda Fletcher, a MoveOn member in Memphis, Tennessee. I am a transgender woman, and I have been out for 11 years. I started a petition to stop the Trump administration's trampling on the rights of transgender people and urgently need your support.

The Trump administration wants to roll back the legal construct of what gender is, to make it so that gender is defined as a "biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth."¹

As The New York Times reports, the "new definition would essentially eradicate federal recognition of the estimated 1.4 million Americans who recognize themselves as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth."² That means the federal government will, in effect, change the gender of 1.4 million people in the U.S., without their consent.

We #WontBeErased.

Sign the petition demanding the Trump administration stop trying to decide how Americans are allowed to define themselves.

Transgender people suffer enough bullying that we don't need it from the government, too. Lawmakers need to stop being allowed to decide how Americans are allowed to define themselves.

The Trump administration proposal spits in the face of science, it spits in the face of every transgender person, and it spits in the face of children who were just starting to feel safe to explore their gender identities.

If Trump succeeds in this inhumane plan, we will be regressing to outdated 1950s standards. I say no more. We fight for all rights.
