Sign the petition re: uranium mining in the Grand Canyon

Uranium mining should not be allowed in this national treasure.

Tell President Obama: Protect the Grand Canyon from uranium mining!

I urge President Obama to protect the Grand Canyon from nearby uranium mining by designating the Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument. Doing so will permanently protect this sacred place for generations to come and set a precedent for protecting other special places across the country from reckless threats.

Dear MoveOn member,

America designated the Grand Canyon as a national park nearly 100 years ago. Unfortunately, the land surrounding the canyon was left out of the park and remains unprotected. Now, mining companies are pushing to start digging for uranium on that land.1

That's why we're calling on President Obama to permanently protect the Grand Canyon from this toxic mining by declaring it a new national monument before he leaves office.
