We have a problem re: Sheldon Adelson

This week, Republican mega-donor and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson announced plans to spend more than $45 million—the largest investment by a billionaire in this election—to prevent Democrats from retaking the Senate.

Dear MoveOn member,

This week, Republican mega-donor and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson announced plans to spend more than $45 million—the largest investment by a billionaire in this election—to influence key Senate races and prevent Democrats from retaking the Senate. CNN calls it "a groundbreaking donation that could redefine the final two months of the 2016 campaign."1

Democrats—up and down the ticket—are in deep trouble. Unless people like you step in to fill the gap.

That's why I'm asking MoveOn members to do me a personal favor: make a contribution today to help elect four progressive women to the Senate—Tammy Duckworth in Illinois, Catherine Cortez-Masto in Nevada, Deborah Ross in North Carolina, and Katie McGinty in Pennsylvania.

They are running in four of the closest Senate races in the country right now—and if all four of these incredible women win, Democrats could take back the U.S. Senate.

Can I personally count on you?

With the presidential race tightening each and every day, there has never been a more critical time for all of us to step up and help ensure a Democratic majority in the Senate.

Believe me, if Trump wins this election, you'll want Democrats in control of the U.S. Senate to stop his radical, bigoted agenda right in its tracks.

And if Hillary Clinton wins, she'll need Democratic allies in the Senate to advance progressive legislation like free college for working-class families.

Will you chip in $3 now and help elect four incredible Democratic women to the Senate? Just click here.

I've had the opportunity to get to know these terrific women, and I can promise you that they will be true champions for Democratic values in the Senate. Here's a little more information about each of them:

Deborah Ross in North Carolina. Deborah has dedicated her career to fighting for equal rights for all, both as the former head of the ACLU of North Carolina and as a North Carolina House Whip.2 Her commitment to ensuring equal pay for equal work, even when her colleagues in the State House fought back against her, is nothing short of inspiring.

Catherine Cortez-Masto in Nevada. Catherine has made it her mission to fight for the most vulnerable among us as Nevada's Attorney General by going up against Bank of America to fight deceptive practices and corruption. She's shown time and time again that she is willing to speak for the voiceless, even when it means standing up to the most powerful among us. And she'd be the first ever Latina senator.3

Katie McGinty in Pennsylvania. Katie has spent much of her career advising President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore on the environment. Now, more than ever, we need more Democrats in the Senate who we can count on to trust science and fight corporate polluters to protect our environment.4

And when severe combat injuries made it impossible for my friend Tammy Duckworth in Illinois to continue serving on the battlefields in Iraq, she chose to serve the public in the halls of Congress.5 I've been honored to work with her on the fight for middle-class families as a member of the House, and I'd be thrilled to continue that work with her in the Senate.

We know that GOP mega-donors like Sheldon Adelson are going to invest big against these strong women candidates to ensure GOP victories in the Senate this November. But their money won't buy these elections—as long as you’re willing to join together with other MoveOn members to elect this incredible team.

Click here to invest $3—or whatever you can—in these incredible candidates, and help us take back the Senate.

Best wishes,

–Senator Dick Durbin

Want to support MoveOn's work? Senator Elizabeth Warren says, "I'm so enthusiastic about MoveOn's smart and targeted plan to hire a network of organizers in key battleground states to mobilize and train volunteers to knock on hundreds of thousands of doors. It's bold and ambitious—and exactly what is needed to help swing Senate races, resoundingly defeat Donald Trump, and give Democrats a fighting chance to take back the House." Will you chip in to help make it all possible?
