Serious fundraising shortfall

This election is so close and so important, and every dollar you give we're able to turn into votes.

Dear MoveOn member,

We've just gone over the budget, and 12 days before Election Day we're still $663,000 short of what we were counting on for this election.

MoveOn doesn't have any secret outside bazillionaire paying our bills—literally every dime comes from members like you. So if we raise less money, we simply have no choice but to do less work.

And if we're not able to close this fundraising gap, we won't be able to follow through on some of the most important parts of our entire campaign plan. For instance:

  • We have ad space reserved in key states like South Dakota—but we haven't raised money to pay for it yet.
  • MoveOn volunteers are making so many get-out-the-vote calls, they're burning through all our calling minutes. We won't be able to make more reminder calls to voters unless we can buy more time from our vendor.
  • We know there will be voter suppression efforts on Election Day, but we don't yet have enough money to put our rapid-response plan in place to stop Republican shenanigans.

If we have to pull the plug on any of this, and then we lose the election . . . it'll be heartbreaking. Can you chip in $3 to help with our campaign?

Yes, I'll chip in to close the fundraising gap and help stop the GOP takeover of the Senate.

This election is so close that control of the entire U.S. Senate could be decided by a single state. And one Senate seat can be decided by a just a few hundred voters. In 2008, we rallied behind progressive champion Al Franken during his first senatorial campaign. He won that Senate seat by a margin of 0.01%—just 312 votes.

That's where MoveOn's groundbreaking voter contact program comes in. We've mastered the most effective strategies to motivate people to vote.

The only downside is that they're quite resource-intensive. For instance, research shows that the most effective way to get someone to vote is to have a real person talk to them directly. It's great that we know how to do that, but it's super expensive to hire enough organizers, computer programmers, and data analysts to run a program like the one we have.

That's why we keep asking you to donate. This election is so close and so important—and every dollar you give we're able to turn into votes. Will you chip in $3 today?

Yes, I'll chip in to help stop the GOP takeover of the Senate.

Thanks for all you do.
